It depends on if it's edema in the true sense of the word (swelling) or just a build up of lymph?
If it is swelling with heat and possible temperature then veterinary assistance is best to make sure there is no virus or infection. If it is just a build up of lymph from lack of circulation then you need to increase the circulation. We find Quickwraps or Recovery wraps very good for this. Red Light or light massage. In hand walking is also helpful as long as there is no virus or infection.
Depending on the cause sometimes compression bandages are useful but would need to be applied by someone who knows what they're doing.
